What we do
Elite Dance Academy is a comprehensive performing arts
studio offering training in the traditional dance
disciplines such as ballet, tap, and jazz along with voice
and performing skills. Children can begin classes at age 2
1/2 and continue until graduation from high school.
In addition to regular classes, students can audition for
the competition team which has won numerous awards both
locally and nationally.
Our business history
Elite Dance Academy was founded by Jan Stefanowski in 1978. In 1996, after 18
years at the Second Street Pike location, the studio moved to it's current 3000
square foot location on Almshouse Road. Over 500 families currently have one or
more children enrolled.
About our staff
Jan Stefanowski brings to her school over 40 years of dancing experience
including 36 years as a teacher. She has studied in New York and Philadelphia
with such famous teachers as Jay Dash, Charles Kelley and Frank Hatchet and is a
member of the Philadelphia Dance Alliance and The Northampton Township Business
and Professional Association. Director Marla Kay has been with the studio for 19
years and in addition to her duties with her classes is also the Competition
Team Director. Amy Widmer, an Elite Graduate with a Bachelors degree in Dance,
is assistant director. Eight other staff members are responsible for the day to
day operations of the studio.
What makes us unique
The director and the professional staff share the philosophy that dance is to be
enjoyed by all for its intrinsic benefits. The teachers love what they do and
believe in a close family type atmosphere in their work with children. The staff
has the ability to take a student from beginner to broadway caliber but also
realizes that not all children have such aspirations. Students of all abilities
are welcome and will be offered challenges that will keep them interested as
well as improve their skills and confidence.
For the safety of the children and staff, a professional Stage Step
flooring system is installed in both dance rooms. The floor "floats" on hundreds
of high density foam cushions which absorb the impact of dancing and jumping.
The floor reduces injury and allows the dancers to perform with minimal fatigue.
The desk staff is available during all class hours so parents and visitors
can always talk to someone to get information or ask questions while teachers
are busy with their classes.
